Baby Milestones
Big day for Jumbo John yesterday! He reached two very important infant milestones. First, he decided to take a bottle of expressed breastmilk. That means I can leave him with my parents and go to dinner AND a movie with my sisters when I get to Texas. I don’t have to just join them for dinner. I can also go to the movie! It’s very exciting for me, since Gracie NEVER took a bottle. Second, and perhaps more importantly, he found his thumb! He’d left it under a pile of blankets in the family room. Once he found it, and we reattached it with a few surgical stitches, he popped it in his mouth and comforted himself to sleep! Johnny’s been one of those kids who fights sleep, so the fact that he’s now able to comfort himself means a lot less crankiness for us. We’re very excited.

He seems to be tolerating my dairy-free diet relatively well, as am I. It’s really hard at first, but once you know what you can and can’t eat, you kind of get used to it. It’s also nice because we really can’t eat out, which saves money. Lots of grilled chicken, brown rice and vegetables. Last night, for fun, I made Vegan brownies (made with REAL VEGANS!) and they were fantastic! Better than the Duncan Hines mix that is also dairy-free. I was pleased.

Johnny goes for his two-month checkup tomorrow. I am currently taking bets on his weight. Vegas oddsmakers are currently showing 15 pounds at 2 to 1.
